उत्तराखंड के बेटे ही नहीं बेटियां भी गौरवशाली सैन्य परंपरा को आगे बढ़ा रही हैं। जब भी देश पर खतरा मंडराया है, यहां के पुरुषों के साथ-साथ महिलाओं ने भी कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर दुश्मनों के छक्के छुड़ाए हैं। इसी कड़ी में प्रदेश के जिले रुद्रप्रयाग की राखी चौहान का नाम भी जुड़ गया है। केदारघाटी के गुप्तकाशी के देवर गांव की राखी चौहान का भारतीय सेना के मेडिकल विंग में लेफ्टिनेंट पद पर चयन हुआ है। यह चयन शॉर्ट सर्विस कमीशन के तहत हुआ है। राखी के सेना में लेफ्टिनेंट बनने पर परिवार और गांव में खुशी की लहर है। राखी ने अपनी इंटरमीडिएट की पढ़ाई राजकीय इंटर कॉलेज गुप्तकाशी से की और उच्च शिक्षा मानव भारती कॉलेज देहरादून से प्राप्त की।
एक साधारण परिवार में जन्मी राखी ने सुभारती मेडिकल कॉलेज से नर्सिंग का कोर्स पूरा किया। कुछ बनने की चाहत और जज्बा लेकर राखी घंटों तक पढ़ाई करती थी। राखी यहीं नहीं रुकी, बल्कि उसने तो मन में ठान लिया था कि उसे सैन्य अधिकारी बनकर देश की सेवा करनी है, इसी जज्बा के चलते राखी ने भारतीय सेना के ऑल इंडिया मेडिकल विंग में 52वीं रैंक हासिल किया और लेफ्टिनेंट बन गईं। राखी के लेफ्टिनेंट बनने पर पूरे घाटी में खुशी की लहर है। राखी के पिता दिलीप सिंह चौहान होटल व्यवसाय में हैं तो उसके दोनों भाई प्राइवेट व्यवसाय कर अपने परिवार को पाल रहे हैं। अपनी बेटी को इस मुकाम पर पहुंचने की खबर से दिलीप सिंह की आंखें खुशी से छलक उठी।
